Why We Love This

A unique close fitting hoof boot designed to keep wounds, poultices and dressings clean. The boot is designed using flexible and light materials to enable easy fitting and as a cost effective alternative to adhesive bandage and tape. Perfect for aiding treatment of abscesses, punctured soles, and bruised soles.

This boot is suitable for use in the stable and can be used on sensible horses in the paddock. Bearing this in mind, exuberant horses and those having undertaken a period of stall rest may damage the boot by standing on it or doing racing stops. In these situations consider using a more traditional poultice for the first day turned out.
Favorite Features
  • Can be used with or without shoes.
  • Suitable for repeated use.
  • Tread on sole for improved grip.
  • Kevlar interior for added durability.
  • Unique diagonal zipper design to prevent zip from opening.

Instructions for Use:
To get the best out of your Medical Hoof Boot:
  • Do not use boot while horse is being ridden.
  • Please measure accurately, as incorrect sizing can result in damage to the boot.
  • Do not use the Medical Hoof Boot in place of an overreach boot to prevent shoe loss.
  • An overreach boot should be used to cover the Medical Hoof Boot on both front and hind hooves; this will protect both the horse and boot from damage. We recommend Woof Wear’s Kevlar Overreach Boot or Pro Overreach Boot.

We expect the boot to last 2-3 weeks under normal circumstances with many customers finding they last much longer. The boot is not indestructible and is not guaranteed against breakage due to the horse standing on the boot.

2 (95-103 mm), 3 (104-112 mm), 4 (113-121 mm),  5 (122-130 mm),  6 (131-139 mm)

*Measure the width of your horse's hoof at the widest point, with or without a shoe.

Woof Wear Medical Boot is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Was very excited but let down A barn friend let me buy one of these second hand (in really good condition) the other day as my horse has a hard time keeping shoes on and is way too tender to walk around without any protection. I originally put the boot on by itself and it was quite the workout getting it over the heel (my Ottb mare only has like a size 2 shoe and I was putting a size 5 boot on her).. After my friend and I got it on her I was pleased she could walk around a little more comfortable. She did go out in turn out (which was super muddy but not tough terrain). It did hold up for one day. The next day I took it off and wrapped her foot over night (leaving the boot to dry after washing the mud off of it), I got her foot wrapped and then got the boot on over my wrap (I made sure to not go heavy since it was snug to begin with and in hind sight I should have ordered a larger size before wrapping underneath). She got to stretch her legs on the lunge line and went on a bit of a bucking/cantering spree, which is unusual for her... Essentially ruining the shoe (although sound!)... I don't think I will purchase another like it, although I was very pleased in the beginning. I would invest some money into a different shoe if you are like me and have horse that likes to pull shoes at a constant rate - than maybe consider something a little more hardy. If you are using for just stall rest purposes than I would definitely recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MORE SIZES PLEASE!!!! This is an excellent product that when used within its capabilities (not for rugged turn-out for example) performs well and is very convenient. We use it on ponies who go barefoot yet have to go to and from the ring over rough ground... we carry one in the ringside equipment backpack in case a shoe gets lost... and at home we use these over a poultice or heal-grab treatment to great effect. What's the problem? THE SIZING!!! Smartpak only carries size 6 as the largest size which fits a horse (barefoot-- no poultice) up to about a size 2 shoe-- so our large ponies and maybe TB... one WB who is small footed (that's probably why he needs it so often). It would be GREAT to be able to get these in HORSE sizes -- WOOF makes PLEASE maybe Smartpak will expand their offerings? It really is a nice product. We would also love to try the WOOF bell-boots / over-reach boots... but again, Smartpak only carries small sizes (and ponies don't often need over-reach boots...). Come on Smartpak!?!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not hold up The good news is that it's easy to put on and take off the horse's hoof, The bad news is that it only lasted 2 days. Back to duct tape.....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The boot was a great idea in theory but didn’t last two weeks the zipper pulled away from the bottom of the boot.. The horse was kept stalled and light turnout where she only walked and she is so neat so no rough stuff I really expected the design to hold up but it didn’t back to vet wrap and duck tape, wasn’t worth the money, I was hoping for a boot that for the money could be a boot that would be kept for treatment purposes...very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoof protection It is easy to use for keeping hoof medications in place

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It tore apart within 24 hours of wear I put it on my horse to protect a puncture wound she had in her sole, and within 24 hours it was torn. I had been using the Cloud, which worked really well, and I thought I would try this boot. It did not work. I returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot! I bought these to keep my senior, abscess-prone pony's feet dry when she's out in the pasture. They are very soft and fit well, so I don't worry about them slipping or turning and causing her to trip. They fit her wide pony feet well and I love things that are easy to clean!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice boot My horse is abscess prone. I think this boot will be really helpful. I have a 17 hand 1450 LB OTTB. Ordered a 5 and had to return it for a 6.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had high hopes Used this on a horse on stall rest for 2 weeks. The horse was wearing a shoe with additional wrapping under this boot. I took it off once a day to address wounds and re wrap. The boot lasted 1 week to the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use for turnout with extra protection I have a horse with an abscesses that has travelled up the hoof and out of the coronet band. I had to find a boot that could keep the wound clean while it healed. I purchased the Woof Wear Medical Boot. I decided to wrap the boot as if he was not wearing a boot. After treating the hoof per my vet; I decided to put duck tape on the sole of the boot, vet wrap the boot, and then duck tape the sole/boot over the vet wrap. The wound has remained clean, his hoof is growing out, my horse goes out daily with his herd and now, that he is healing, he can be lightly worked. I do take my horse out of the boot whenever I can ( daily if possible) to make sure his hoof can dry. I have 2 boots I swap out. I throw the used boot in the wash to clean and then air dry it. I am going a month with he same boot. He is a happy camper and so am I!
