Very Happy
I waited a year before reviewing to ensure I could accurately provide info. after wearing the boots. So far they have been fantastic. I ride 4-5x week and they have held up very well. Extremely comfortable, did not require much break-in time and much better quality than Ariat boots I used to wear that usually only lasted a year and were not as comfortable.

The SMELL!!
I bought this boot after absolutely loving the Donatello II. This model is definitely not in the same category. I ordered the same size I always do and I had zero chance of these boots zipping over my calves. Perhaps more importantly, though, was the horrendous smell of these boots. I had read a review that they did not smell good, but discounted it as one buyer just being picky. I was very wrong!!! Between the fit and the stench I could not return them fast enough. Very thankful for Smarkpak’s very streamline return process.

Sole falling off
I asked my gramma to get me a pair of boots for Christmas in December 2019 and ended up with these which I had loved my first pair of. Move forward to today, I haven’t even worn the boots enough to fully break them in and the sole has already detached itself from the boot. I’m extremely disappointed in the new style of the boot as well. The old Donatello’s had a holder attached to the top button to keep the zipper up and they didn’t have fabric on the leg of the boot. It’s like they’ve decided profit is more important than the actual quality and longevity of the boots. I can’t afford new boots again, especially since these still aren’t fully broken in and still leave blisters on my ankles, so I’ll be gorilla gluing them back together in hopes that they’ll stay connected to the boot. Wouldn’t recommend this boot and will be going to a different brand when I can afford to do so.

Just not good quality
Cons: Bought them 9 months ago, both elastics snapped (terrible quality elastics), and there are multiple seems sticking out. They get very dirty easily and leather keeps dirt no matter how many protective products I use.
Pros: Very soft leather and feels like good quality (its not though). I didn't have no break them in and it was pain free. No foot problems and has a nice sole. Zipper is good and stays up. AMAZING fit for my body type (small ankles, slim shin, tall).

They’re okay...
I bought these boots about 3 years ago and unfortunately they haven’t held up the best.. granted, I am really TOUGH on my boots. I wore them and rode in them just about every day for the past 3 years. They’ve done their job for the last 3 years but unfortunately it’s just about time to replace them. The leather stitching is starting to tear around the laces, and the synthetic leather around the zippers is almost completely peeled off. The zipper is broken so I literally had to sew my boot closed. like I said, I’m rough on my boots. I wasn’t a fan of them even when I first bought them. After breaking them in, the calf stretched out too much, and the leather by the ankle bunched up quite a bit and they dropped too far. I don’t think I’ll be buying these again.

I cannot express how much I detest these boots
Purchased June 2019. Pulled them out of the box, and I see elastic on the outside, kind of a weird look and not like the pics but, whatever. Then the smell hits me. It smells like the chemicals you would use to declog a drain. I try them on and they are on ok fit so I give it a go.
They break in quickly but the smell does not go away. I can’t even bring these things into the house. I contact smartpak and they are willing to let me exchange, but I worry what the point is if I just get more smelly boots, and these fit overall. I keep them but reach out to the manufacturer. Manufacturer says they will send me some silicone beads to help me with the smell. No joke, they sent two salt packet sized silicone bead packs you’d receive with toys. Needless to say they didn’t help with the smell. Then, by the grace of god, I found a pair of used mountain horse wide calf’s, my favorite. I immediately stopped using these and shelfed them. I also ride in smartpaks brown tall boots they discountinued daily (had they not been discountinued I’d have 10 pairs, plz bring them back)
Unfortunately, my daily’s are having zipper problems. Which made me pull out these god forsaken wretched boots. They are we broken in and still give me blisters. The bottom has no traction and I just fell walking on wet grass. When taking them off, the bottom button just broke. These boots are less than a year old and haven’t seen much use past breaking in, and they are absolute garbage. The biggest waste of money I have ever partaken in. They are ugly, they still smell, and their performance is poor. Would give 0 stars if I could

So disappointed
I had Donatello II boots and they finally wore out, so I ordered the III because I loved my old ones so much. I was so disappointed when I opened the box because the boots were beautiful but one look told me there was no way they were zipping over my ankle. And I was right.
The foot fit perfectly, I think the calf would have fit perfectly but I just couldn't get them zipped past the ankle. (I have big ankles, always have, but they are not THAT big.)
I had to send them back. (honestly, I've had this same problem with EVERY boot brand I've tried -- I never used to have this problem with boots before. As I said, the Donatello II fit like a dream).
If they fit you I think you'll love them but I was disappointed
