Great Stall Rest Companion
A few years ago my gelding sustained an injury that required at least a month of solid stall rest. Unfortunately for that stall he is a spicy Arabian and I dreaded having to make him stall rest. This product saved both of our sanities. These are such a great distraction and I was very impressed at how long it took for him to get all the pellets out! I would fill these with an Alfalfa pellets and let him go to town. The whole yard could hear him slinging this ball around his stall for it to drop a few pellets at a time, but it kept him quiet enough throughout the day. A full ball would last him 3+ hours of entertainment and doesn't really require that much feed. The durability is very impressive considering his rolling attempts. Highly recommend!

Good for keeping busy
Bought to keep our two toothless guys who can’t really chew hay busy overnight/between mashes. We fill with some of their senior feed (dry). They love rolling them around. Giving it 4 stars only because it can be hard to get the last handful of food out.

Great Boredom Buster
I’ve been using the Shires Ball Feeders for my crew for over 4 years. They are fairly durable, easy to keep clean, and provide much-needed entertainment when stalled. The first year or so, barnmates would ask what the noise was that came from my younger gelding’s stall. I would chuckle and tell them to go look—there would be my gelding happily rolling around his Shires Ball Feeder. He knew at that point how to get the treats out, but would continue to roll the ball around to hear the fun clinking sound it makes with hard treats. Here we are several years later, and now 5 other horses in the barn now have them! Nighttime routines sound like a Shires Treat Ball symphony.

Too expensive to be disposable.
My gelding absolutely loved his treat ball, for the week that it lasted. Yesterday I came to the barn and somehow it got dented, causing it to have a sharp point where the opening is. This makes it dangerous and unsuitable for use with animals. Very disappointed as I had hoped this would keep my guy entertained whilst on stall rest recovering from an injury.

Mini loves it!
The Shires Ball Feeder is the best at keeping my miniature horse entertained in her stall and paddock! My mini is on a limited diet and becomes quite bored after she finishes her hay for the day. I fill this ball with a handful of ration balancer and a couple of treats by funneling them into the small opening in the ball. She quickly learned to push the ball around with her nose to dispense the treats. This ball can be tricky to empty and clean completely since there is only a small opening. However, it is very durable and keeps my mini entertained for hours!

Great boredom bustomer
I got this feeder as a "boredom buster" for my horse that has limited access to turnout due to an injury. I was looking for something that could keep his mind busy. Since he is predisposed to metabolic issues, I didn't want to give him anything that was high in sugar. I came across this ball feeder and figured I would give it a try considering he is known as the "treat monster" at the barn. When I first put the ball in the stall he wasn't sure what to think. Once he realized that he needed to kick the ball around and treats would be dispensed, he caught on very quickly (in true treat monster fashion). It can definitely be noisy when he kicks the ball around as it is a hard plastic. With that being said, after having it in his stall for months at this point the ball holds up very well and has not caused any damaged to the stall. I put a handful of SmartCookies- Carrot Cake in the ball and I can hear him nickering at the other end of the aisle because he hears the treats go into the ball and he knows it is for him. I clean the ball quite regularly by adding a tiny bit of dish soap to the ball, adding hot water, shaking it around and rinsing it out. I just use the standard size hose in the barn and that does the trick to keep it clean.

My horse loves this
Playing with this toy is my horse’s favorite activity. He initially tried biting it, pawing it, stomping on it to get the treats out. It sustained a small dent but it still serviceable. Once he figured out how to roll it around the stall it has kept him very busy!
