The 4Star helmet also has the innovative Charles Owen “Free Fit” ventilation system, which allows for increased airflow across the forehead. It combines a frontal air channel with Coolmax® mesh to significantly increase cooling and evaporation of sweat.

Comfortable and feels extremely protective
I chose this helmet as a replacement after taking a fall in my Charles Owen Fian. The Fian is lovely to look at, very streamlined, but was not the most comfortable helmet I’ve had, and only meets the more basic safety standards. I decided this time to try the “safest” helmet Charles Owen offers. I was initially a bit taken back at my giant mushroom head in this skullcap, but to heck with vanity- I want the best protection my noggin can get. I’ll use a cheap old velvet hunt cap for photo ops, and his for actual riding.

Not for me
The quality is good but the fit was all wrong. It was quite shallow and very tight. I have 2 AYR 8 helmets that fit perfectly but the same size in the 4star just did not work. Sent it back.

Amazing Protection!
I bought my Skull Cap several years ago and have taken many falls but never did I have an easy fall and have my head hurt. It has always given my a safe feeling unlike many other brands I have tried. I never did have any problems with it until I one day clipped my helmet onto the stirrup iron of my jumping saddle and it spooked my horse and he promptly took off galloping and bucking. He kicked it several times and ran it into the fence and sadly it did crack, BUT I will be getting a new once and if I had been wearing it, my trainers all agreed I would have survived with likely none to little damage (to my head.)

Best Investment
I am in love with my Four Star helmet! I was hesitant to upgrade from my Pro II after a bad fall, but it was on sale and fit wonderfully! It looks amazing in all three phases, is very well ventilated, and I feel safe out on cross-country while wearing it. I will buy another one once my current one is too old!

Great helmet!
This is my second Charles Owen helmet. My Pro2 was over 5 years old and it was time for a new helmet and I decided to upgrade to the 4star. I'm very happy with that choice. I think the coverage is a little better, the vent system is great and I really like the metal buckle this helmet has. I normally wear an elongated oval helmet so I had to go with a slightly larger helmet in order to get a proper fit, but the free return shipping process was a breeze and enabled me to get just the right size as quickly & easily as possible.

Seemed extremely well made and the ultimate protection from a helmet, but very heavy for my 13 yr old daughter who suffered a whip lash concussion after coming off a jump. This weight would potentially add to additional risk of that happening again.

Awesome!
This helmet sits lower around the skull than my older Charles Owen skull cap and I love how safe it feels, without feeling huge or bulky. The chin buckle is metal instead of plastic and that's definitely an upgrade, too! We're still in winter months so I can't comment on whether or not the vents really make that much of a difference, but my head seems to be less sweaty lately, so maybe it's working!

Very comfortable, but does run a tad large and has a more oval shape than other brands. This guy is also better ventilated than other skulls I have used in the past which I love! My only complaint is that the helmet was packed incorrectly and the visor warped during shipping.

Fits great and is very comfortabe
I bought this helmet to replace my 4 year old Charles Owen Jockey II skull after a took a tumble in it. I loved that helmet and love this one too. It fits just the same, very comfortably and I feel safe on cross country. This one has the addition of vents which my old one did not which ought to be great next summer.

A beautifully made helmet!
I loved the helmet with all the extra padding and leather straps and adjustment panel in back. Beautifully made. One problem. I measured my head according to instructions and ordered the appropriate helmet. When it came the helmet measured an inch larger than it was sized. I had to send it back and order another helmet. I am very happy with the new helmet but make sure you order a size down.
