GTF Chromium® is a palatable powder for horses needing extra support to maintain normal metabolic function. An excellent source of chromium, this supplement is great for performance horses on high grain intakes or horses requiring help achieving normal blood sugar levels. Chromium is a trace mineral that works with insulin to regulate blood sugar. Insulin’s primary function is to stimulate the transport of sugar from the bloodstream to the cell. Chromium helps metabolize sugar by facilitating its uptake into the cells. Research has shown that chromium supplementation to horses on high grain diets improves the clearance of sugar from the blood after meals and increases the metabolism of glucose inside the cells. Chromium does not improve insulin sensitivity, but when used appropriately can help maintain normal blood glucose levels.
