An ideal source of the salt your horse needs

Since hay and grain provide very little salt, horses that won’t use a salt block need an additional source of salt just to meet their daily needs. In addition, replenishing the salt lost through sweat during warm months or heavy exercise is critical! Plain salt is ideal if your horse is on an otherwise well-balanced diet that supplies his other mineral and electrolyte needs, or if your horse has HYPP and can't be given typical electrolytes because of their potassium content.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NightshadeArabs from 2/3 Horses said "Nope" I added this to my smartpaks after self dosing with salt for several months, I decided I liked the idea of having it dosed out for me. Two of three of my horses would no longer clean up the loose salt when it came in the paks unless I wetted their grain so they had to eat it. I'm switching all three to electrolytes now instead of just salt because they are being worked more, but I would for sure put the one that will eat it back on it later if I wanted just salt again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Meaghan from Works great! I bought this product a month ago after trying the SmartSalt Pellets that didn’t work as I expected. The loose salt works like a charm as long as I mix it into a little bit of water or else my boy won’t lick the bottom of his bucket because of the salty taste. Other than that, the only issue I had was when it arrived in its package, some of the salt had came out of the strips and all over the box and other strips. I do love the convenience and results of this salt, but I may switch back to buying it for a $1 at the grocery store.

The salt gets her to drink more water now, even in the cooler months of winter here in the south. I think the extra water she drinks will help prevent colic. She has never colic before, but I have seen other horses suffer, need emergency surgery and even die from colic. So for me, the salt fixes her lack of water. This was recommended by trainer.
