My name is Brittney Chambers and I am the Founder and Owner of CBC Therapeutic Horseback Riding Academy, LLC in Elk Grove, CA. I have been riding horses my entire life, and I don’t know life without them. Growing up, I rode several different styles in the English and Western Disciplines. I still ride both English and Western and teach both as well, with a specialization in rider biomechanics.

“I wanted to make sure that in the place I created, any and everyone felt loved and accepted.”

I always knew that I wanted to be a horse trainer and teach people to ride when I grew up. I wanted to have a riding school where any and everyone is welcome. Growing up, I was always the only one at the barn that looked like me. So I wanted to make sure that in the place I created, any and everyone felt loved and accepted. Despite me looking different, my love for horses never wavered. During my senior year in high school, I discovered equine therapy and I knew I wanted to have a place that could provide that for those that needed it.

When I was 17 years old, my childhood horse named “A Bold Lady” passed away. For the first time in my life, I did not have a horse. A few short months later, I started college. I was an athlete in college on the track team, and because I joined a sport, I was unable to ride. I ended up getting a scholarship in college for track — and once I signed those papers I had to put riding on hold because if I were to get hurt, I would no longer receive a free education.

Despite putting horses on hold, I knew that I would get back to them someday. So, while in college, I focused on the education I needed to have in order to one day run a riding academy successfully. I received an Associate’s Degree in Social Science with a minor in Psychology, a Bachelor’s Degree in Addictions Counseling Specializing in Treatment with a Minor in Psychology, and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Once I graduated with my Bachelor’s in 2012, I moved back to California and made my way back into the saddle after four long years. It was the best feeling ever! Once I graduated with my Master’s in 2014, I then began the process to open up my Academy.

In October of 2015, I became a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor with Path Intl., and opened up CBC Therapeutic Horseback Riding Academy LLC on December 1st, 2015. In 2016 I became dually certified with Path Intl. as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.

“Our main goal is to continue changing lives through the touch of a horse.”

At the Academy, we provide riding lessons, horsemanship classes both in-person and online, horse training,  and equine-facilitated learning and psychotherapy. It is a one-stop-shop for everyone. Whether you are a green beginner or someone who is advanced, we will meet you where you are.

Additionally, we have partnered with several community organizations including our local police department and mayor’s office to address the issues of mental health in our community, with hopes to improve it by way of horseback riding.

Our main goal is to continue changing lives through the touch of a horse.
