Great price point, snaps are terrible.
I ordered these synthetic half chaps to use for hacking and trail riding and didn’t want to spend a fortune for them. The price was definitely right! And the fit and synthetic leather material are nice. But the snaps pulled out of the synthetic leather before I ever even wore them! Just trying to open the brand new snaps for the first wear, they ripped out! So, if you’re counting on snaps to protect the zipper and hold the closure, these are not the half-chaps for you. Otherwise, they’re good for the price.

Love that these are synthetic, and affordable!
I don’t like buying leather, so I was beyond excited when I saw smartpak had synthetic leather half chaps. Basically giving them 5 stars because they are synthetic, such a great option for people living a vegan lifestyle….THANK YOU SMARTPAK!!! I do like they come in Tall option as I am tall. I do wish the tall option was even a couple inches taller, like the ariat ones, but that’s minor. I got the XS Tall and they fit great. I do feel like they maybe run a little bigger than ariat which is why I go XS Tall….so I would say size down, plus there is some stretch. The buttons especially at the bottom are kinda hard to press down, but not a deal breaker. Would be great if these came in brown, hopefully smartpak will make these in brown one day. Mine fit good and look just like more expensive half chaps. LOVE the price of these and because of the price and that fact they are synthetic leather I will continue to buy them if I ever need another pair. Get these!!!

Look nice! great price
I got these for dressage schooling when I didn't want to use leather chaps. For the price they are great. THEY RUN SMALL! I usually take a medium but ordered large and its perfect. They do NOT breathe so better for use in colder climates or bad weather.

Finally wore my half chaps. I find the elastytoo tight. I know it’ll stretch some but puts my foot to sleep. The zipper is too small both tab and teeth. Hard to grab and sand will get in and cause malfunction. The zipper direction could lean more forward so easier to do up. Being towards the back of the calf it’s hard to wrap your my body around my leg to do up. Bigger tab would help.

Great for the price
I bought these for my daughter who is interested in taking some beginner riding lessons. I love the look of them. They are great for the price. Don't know how they will hold up, but if she really likes riding we aren't out too much $$ and we can buy nicer boots/half chaps if need be!

These are what they are
I bought these despite the less than stellar reviews for a riding trip to Iceland. (If you are familiar with Icelandic rules you are NOT able to bring any goods into the country that have been in contact with horses in another country.) At this price point I wasn't expecting the same quality as half chaps that cost WAY more. They actually exceeded my expectations. For me, the fit was great! (Im 5'9" and ordered the medium/tall) Unless you looked closely you could not have told they were not leather. They rode comfortably, cleaned up well, and I even got comments on them from one of our guides. Since I bought them for the trip I left them with her at the conclusion of the ride so they can have a long, happy life tölting across the Icelandic countryside! If you are looking for a budget or starter pair of half chaps these for sure fit the bill!

Snaps are terrible!
I bought 3 pairs of these over the course of several months because the first pair the snaps just fell off. The 2nd pair did the same and the 3rd pair the snaps DON'T SNAP! I literally keep pliers with them to forcibly get the snaps to snap, but no way you can do it with just your hands. Saggy fit too, however the material is nice and the zipper is smooth and as always, smartpak customer service is great.

Bad snaps
I bought these two months ago as a kick around cheap pair of half chaps. They looks fine and feel fine and fit fine, but the snaps were really bad on the first pair so I returned them for a different pair without ever riding in them. 2nd pair arrived and the snaps seems better but I never got them on because one of the snaps broke as soon as I opened it. Smartpak of course accepted the return and was wonderful as always but I won’t be trying a third pair.

Strange sizing and fit
I see I'm the second person who got these as a replacement for the other synthetic half chaps smartpak sells, which broke after only a few months. These don't fit as well, but are easier to put on because of the zippers on the sides, rather than in the back.
Cons:
These don't look or feel well made
The shape is not fitted through the calf and ankle so, unless you have really skinny calves or really fat ankles, these aren't going to fit and, as a result, you look like you're at the barn for your first lesson in the chaps you ordered from amazon.
These run big - but not all around, I usually wear a medium tall, but these are saggy and baggy on me in that size everywhere but the calf.

Good fit, not very grippy
Fit is great, I had the Eliza suede 1/2 chaps but they tore after 2 months of use. Smart Pak refunded me so I could order new ones. Unfortunately they were sold out and I needed something pronto so I ordered these. Fit great just not as grippy as the suede ones. However, I don’t think there is any chance of tears here so for that I’m happy.
